When a customer asked me to decorate her walls in Kalklitir Kalkpaint, I am not ashamed to admit my first action was to open Google up on my phone and start typing WHAT IS KALKPAINT? In all my years painting, which started at the age of 5 and has included studying Fine Art at A-Level, I had never heard of this type of paint. A few minutes Googling later and I had a better idea of what it was, and I started to get excited. Kalkpaint made by Kalklitir( based in Belgium) is a lime based paint, that arrives in powder form and requires the applicator to mix with water to the correct ratio. Once the powder and water is in the bucket you use a whisk to mix the paint, reminiscent of making a cake mix, and then let the paint set for 10 minutes. Whilst waiting for the paint to set I started to think about how pleasurable it was to make the paint. There is an extra sense of satisfaction at watching the paint set compared to opening a tin with paint already prepped and ready to go, feels like going back in timeā¦.in a good way. Kalpaint adds real texture and character to walls. In a similar way to Venetian plaster, you are applying layers to the wall, building up texture and tone. Using a natural bristle brush only, the application process is very time consuming, but I found it to be a fun journey. After two long days, the process was complete, stepping back and looking at the walls, I took great satisfaction in my work and more importantly the experience. The customer was delighted with the end result, which is the most important thing. I am looking forward to taking on another Kalkpaint project soon, and I highly recommend Kalkpaint from Kalklitir.
